Journalism school studentsThe mission of Journalist’s Resource is to promote journalism education that encourages and enables students to apply knowledge that is the product of research at universities and other institutions to their work.

As our society has become increasingly complex, so have the problems we face. In response, the range of scientific inquiry has widened and deepened and can often be applied in ways that would enhance the public’s understanding of events, developments and issues — if journalists would apply it.

Journalist’s Resource seeks to bridge the gap between the worlds of research and journalism, enabling and encouraging knowledge-based reporting. Its core components are:

Policy Areas: Where to go to find the best research on a wide range of topics. Each article presents the current state of knowledge on a particular subject, accompanied by themes that educators and students can use to deepen their knowledge and apply it to specific situations.

Journalist’s Library: A resource for students, working professionals and citizens alike to improve their core journalism skills, including news and feature writing, style, ethics and more.

This site is a project of the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism Education, which is working to develop a vision of what a journalism school can be at an institution of higher education.
